VP, GPL Franchise Lead Oncology
Position Summary
Accountable for maximizing the value of the Oncology portfolio by shaping the end‑to‑end disease strategy, in partnership with Research, Development, Global Product Development & Supply, and Commercialization, and leading a team of Global Program Leads.
Translate strategies into efficient execution. Report to the SVP, Head of Development, HOCT and matrix report to the SVP, Drug Development Strategy & Portfolio Management.
Key Responsibilities
Develops Disease Area Portfolio Strategy
Set the end‑to‑end disease strategy across the full lifecycle in partnership with drug development functions and other cross‑functional teams.
Accelerate the portfolio and reduce development timelines while optimizing revenue and market reach of existing products.
Lead R&D business development activities for the Oncology portfolio, partnering with Business Development and Strategy & Portfolio Management.
Effectively manage disease portfolio budget, making trade‑off decisions with an enterprise mindset.
Drive execution of portfolio strategy through leadership of Disease Area Global Program Leads
Lead and inspire a high‑performing organization of Global Program Leaders across the Disease Area.
Oversee design and execution of globally integrated program strategies, timelines, and budgets from candidate nomination to successful launch and lifecycle management.
Prioritize, synthesize, and test feedback from senior leaders on program direction and coach GPLs.
Provide strategic and technical leadership to build a world‑class drug development team while balancing scientific excellence and operational effectiveness.
Demonstrate inspirational leadership that fosters an inclusive and diverse environment driving innovation.
Show superior enterprise mindset and leadership maturity to shape the future of R&D.
Ensure Program Leaders demonstrate must‑win capabilities and partner effectively with R&D functions and across the Enterprise.
Engage senior leaders and stakeholders to align program strategy and operational plans.
Communicate program risks, competitive landscape implications, and progress toward key milestones.
Lead team problem‑solving to deliver key data and interpretations critical for robust debate and rapid, data‑driven decision making.
Leverage team expertise and governance bodies to define asset development strategies and implementation plans.
Serves as Global Program Lead (GPL) for one or more programs
Act as the single point of accountability for leading the Global Program Team through the design and execution of a global integrated program strategy, overseeing all aspects of the drug development lifecycle to ensure successful launch and commercialization.
Develop, lead, and inspire a high‑performing matrix team and ensure strategic alignment with cross‑functional stakeholders and senior leaders as data and competitive insights evolve.
Qualifications & Experience
MD, PhD, DVM, PharmD, or equivalent advanced degree of relevance.
10+ years of experience in the drug development process and leadership experience in academic or industry settings.
Expertise in the drug development process, especially late development, regulatory expectations, and overall drug development principles.
Proven leadership capability building high‑performing teams across large, matrixed organizations.
Deep understanding of biology, pharmaceutical optimization, translational medicine, and clinical pharmacology.
Working knowledge of all exploratory development functional areas and late development and commercialization.
Ability to create a clear purpose, global vision, strategies, and key priorities for competitive success.
Ability to lead a cross‑functional team in executing development plans focused on product differentiation and data‑driven acceleration.
Ability to assess complex, sparse data sets objectively and make informed decisions amid uncertainty.
Proficiency in presenting complex programs to senior leaders and influencing decision making.
Strong collaboration skills across functional boundaries.
Strong business and financial acumen to support portfolio strategy and investment decisions.
Compensation Overview
$415,630 – $503,649
The starting compensation range is listed above for a full‑time employee (FTE). Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available based on eligibility. Compensation is ultimately determined by demonstrated experience.
