We're currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Linux Database Engineer to join our client on a 6-month contract based in Bern, Switzerland (hybrid model). Responsibilities
* Administer, install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL and MariaDB databases.
* Optimize database performance (query tuning, indexing, configuration).
* Implement and manage high availability and replication solutions.
* Ensure data integrity through effective backup and recovery management.
* Monitor and analyze system performance to proactively address issues.
* Support planning and execution of database migrations.
* Configure and manage Apache web servers for DB-driven web applications.
* Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g. Bash, Python, Perl).
* Collaborate with developers and IT teams to deliver optimized database solutions.
Required Skills
* Proven experience administering PostgreSQL and MariaDB on Linux.
* Strong knowledge of SQL, database design, and performance tuning.
* Experience with Apache web server configuration.
* Solid skills in shell scripting (Bash, Python, Perl) and automation.
* Familiarity with HA solutions (e.g. Patroni, Galera Cluster) and replication.
* Deep understanding of backup strategies and disaster recovery.
* Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving abilities.
* Capable of both independent and team-oriented work.
* Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines.
* Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
* Experience in cloud environments and security best practices.
* Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
