The Scientific Data & Products (SDP) group in Research Informatics (RX) is dedicated to maximizing the impact and value of software and data for BR. We deliver powerful, functional, beautiful, and integrated software solutions that create a seamless user experience. Our organization aims to build and apply excellence in product and data management to advance Novartis drug discovery.
About the Role
As a Data Architect, you will design efficient, elegant, and high-performance data architectures and data flows within our scientific data systems. You will collaborate closely with product management, data engineering, business analysis, user experience, data science, and information security teams to realize our product vision. Your goal will be to create a secure, compliant, high-performing, and sustainable data landscape that supports RX's strategic objective of democratizing access to BR's data.
Major Responsibilities
1. Design enterprise-quality data architectures supporting our products.
2. Update designs regularly based on learnings from agile product teams.
3. Consider the impact on BR- and Novartis-wide data ecosystems.
4. Define and drive solutions for smooth data flow and connectivity across scientific domains.
5. Promote adoption of RX and industry best practices among product teams.
6. Design, implement, and maintain security and infrastructure requirements for development, testing, and production environments.
7. Collaborate with Architecture and Operations teams to integrate new solutions efficiently.
8. Lead architectural improvements and standardization efforts for infrastructure and security environments.
9. Develop automated processes for deploying solutions and create reusable frameworks.
10. Implement controls for configuration items and manage assets within the enterprise IT environment.
11. Create detailed solution and service designs to meet quality and performance standards, ensuring timely delivery.
Major Accountabilities

* Strong knowledge in at least two of BR's core data areas (molecular biology, chemistry/chemical biology, clinical).
* Experience supporting standard IT products and understanding of data flows in these areas.
* Proven experience in architecting solutions for laboratory data workflows at a global level.
* Ability to balance corporate and departmental priorities globally.
* Understanding of a global company's digital needs.
* Commitment to data consistency and building consensus among IT and scientific teams.
* Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience operating at the interface of research and development functions.
* Ability to initiate and lead organizational improvements.
* Experience with agile development, linked data concepts, and tools.
Essential Requirements
* Minimum 10 years of experience as a data architect, engineer, or software engineer.
* At least 5 years working in scientific software or drug discovery environments.
* Proven experience managing scientific data and metadata.
* Experience with agile processes and distributed data systems.
* Knowledge of ontologies, RDF, cloud technologies (AWS, Google, Azure).
* Proficiency in English (oral and written).
