Location : Zurich, Onsite | Employment Type: Permanent, full-time Job Summary As a Project Engineer – Industrial Automation, you will lead projects focused on integrating manufacturing equipment and optimizing data flow across production systems, delivering automation solutions from concept through to implementation. You will develop software and data integration solutions while collaborating closely with engineering, production, and IT teams. Your Responsibility Execute automation projects focused on equipment integration and data flow optimization within manufacturing systems Implement and maintain SECS/GEM communication interfaces and other industrial protocols (e.g., OPC UA, OPC Classic, BACnet) for production and facility equipment connectivity Collect requirements from process, production, and IT stakeholders, and translate them into automation scenarios and technical specifications Configure and test automation solutions ensuring seamless communication between equipment, MES, and other company systems Perform validation and troubleshooting of equipment communication and data interfaces Develop automation software mainly based on Java and design robust data collection pipelines in collaboration with data engineers and database experts. Work with version control systems for managing code and configurations — including branching, merging, and CI/CD pipelines Document and standardize automation procedures to ensure scalability, maintainability, and compliance with production standards Qualifications Master’s degree in Automation, Electrical, Software, or Mechanical Engineering (FH or equivalent) Professional experience in process or factory automation software, ideally in a semiconductor or advanced manufacturing environment Skills & Other Requirements Familiarity with SECS/GEM communication and other equipment integration protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, BACnet, etc.) Familiarity with SQL databases, data engineering, and data flow design Experience and good understanding of object-oriented programming (e.g., Groovy, Java, Python) – Java proficiency is an advantage Experience with Git, including branching strategies, version control, and CI/CD pipelines – experience with Azure DevOps, Apache Maven for artifacts, and build pipelines is a big advantage Analytical, structured, and hands-on approach to problem solving Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset to work across teams Take ownership of automation projects, defining integration approaches and breaking down complex requirements into scalable solutions Fluent in English and German or working proficiency - required for communicating with operators Enthusiasm for automation and industrial software, data-driven decision making, and technology-driven process improvement Application Process All candidates who wish to apply should submit a CV and cover letter outlining their interest in the position and how their skills and experience align with the requirements of the role.
