Beschreibung

The Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (www.bsse.ethz.ch, D-BSSE) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position. D-BSSE, based in Basel’s BioValley area, focuses on understanding, modeling, and engineering complex biological systems with an emphasis on medical and translational research. The assistant professorship is embedded in the newly established Botnar Institute of Immune Engineering (BIIE), which aims to develop innovative computational and immune-based solutions for pressing health challenges, particularly those affecting children and adolescents, and encourages collaboration with medical research communities in Basel and Zurich.

* The future Assistant Professor will bring unique, multidisciplinary expertise in computational immunology, contributing to the development of cutting‑edge tools, models, and strategies to understand and engineer immune systems for translational medicine. Candidates may use integrative approaches that combine immunogenomics, machine learning, systems biology, and computational modeling to create novel diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive solutions. While rooted in computational immunology, the candidate is also expected to engage with experimental groups within the department to drive collaborative advancements in translational health technologies. Key areas of research may include, but are not limited to, computational analysis of immune receptor diversity and specificity, predictive modeling of immune responses, structure‑based immune protein design, systems‑level simulation of immune networks, and machine learning for precision immunotherapy development. Candidates should also explore innovative approaches such as integrating high‑throughput data, single‑cell immune profiling, digital health platforms, and advanced computational frameworks e.g. for pathogen‑host interactions and vaccine design.
* Applicants are expected to have an excellent publication track record in computational immunology or related fields. They should demonstrate a strong interest in clinical applications and an ambition to conduct research relevant to global health and childhood medicine. At the assistant professorship level, commitment to teaching and the ability to lead a research group are required.
