The Role: Backend Engineer (Rust)
We’re on a mission to rethink how sports data is handled — shifting away from manual process and building a future where time critical decisions are automated so that we stay at the forefront of our markets. As a Backend Engineer, you’ll help build the systems that make this possible. Working with Rust and running in the cloud on AWS and EKS, you’ll architect reliable, high-performance services that power everything from real-time data capture to AI-driven decision support.
This is a chance to work on a genuinely impactful problem: making operations faster, more accurate, and less dependent on repetitive human tasks. You'll be part of a small, sharp team with the freedom to shape our technical direction and build for scale from day one.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and implement backend services and APIs in Rust to support scalable, real-time sports data automation.
* Integrate AI and ML models into backend workflows to streamline manual tasks and decision-making processes.
* Collaborate with data, DevOps, and product teams to define system architecture and operational flows.
* Build and operate cloud-native applications in AWS, primarily within EKS (Kubernetes).
* Ensure high reliability, observability, and performance across backend services.
* Contribute to technical discussions, architecture reviews, and code quality standards.
Qualifications:
* 3+ years of backend software engineering experience.
* Professional experience with Rust (or strong systems programming background with readiness to ramp up).
* Proven track record of building and maintaining production systems in AWS.
* Strong familiarity with containerization and Kubernetes (EKS preferred).
* Experience integrating or working with AI/ML systems, ideally in a production environment.
* Solid understanding of software architecture patterns and CI/CD practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in high-throughput or real-time data systems.
* Prior exposure to sports data, media, or similar domains.
* Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform.
* Experience building automation for operational workflows or internal tooling.
* Comfortable working in fast-moving startup-like environments.
