Communications and Advocacy Coordinator (Ukraine)

Join to apply for the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator (Ukraine) role at Legal Action Worldwide (LAW).

About LAW

Founded in 2013, Legal Action Worldwide is an independent non‑profit organization comprised of human rights lawyers and jurists, united in our belief that those who have experienced grave human rights violations and international crimes should receive targeted, survivor‑centred, gender‑competent, and trauma‑informed support to access the justice they deserve. LAW’s teams work in conflict‑affected and fragile contexts across 18 countries, including Ukraine, providing legal redress and strengthening justice institutions.

The Position

Step into a role where your powerful storytelling and strategic communication skills will amplify the voices of survivors and elevate LAW’s mission. You will lead the design and implementation of strategic communications and advocacy initiatives that enhance the visibility of our Ukraine programme, building strong relationships with media and stakeholders, supporting strategic litigation through compelling advocacy outputs, and contributing to high‑level national advocacy efforts.

Location: Kyiv (must have the legal right to work in Ukraine). Flexible and hybrid work arrangements are available subject to operational and management’s discretion. Duration: 12‑month full‑time contract, with possible extension subject to funding. Salary: Competitive, based on experience, plus benefits.

What you will do

Strategic Communications

* Design a communications strategy aligned with LAW’s mission and Ukraine programme priorities.
* Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and strategic partners.
* Draft and coordinate articles, press releases, media interviews, and press conferences.
* Coordinate with the Communications Manager and Programme Manager to produce high‑impact content for digital platforms, press, publications, and events.
* Manage social media content calendars and posts across platforms (Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn), including drafting, scheduling, and analysing engagement.
* Coordinate with external consultants (graphic designers, videographers) and prepare specific communication products.
* Ensure LAW’s brand identity is consistently applied across all content and media.

Advocacy

* Develop and lead high‑level national advocacy strategies, in collaboration with programme and litigation teams.
* Represent LAW at strategic platforms, including UN agencies, donor governments, civil society networks, and policy forums.
* Lead and support the planning and execution of advocacy campaigns, roundtables, and high‑level events, including a flagship event on justice or accountability in Ukraine.
* Draft and contribute to advocacy materials including op‑eds, policy notes, talking points, newsletters, and case studies.
* Collaborate on the planning and communications of high‑profile events and launches in Ukraine.
* Support fundraising efforts with compelling content development and drafting articles.

Digital Media

* Support the social media strategy to grow our audiences across Twitter and LinkedIn.
* Develop presence in Instagram, creating engaging and visually compelling social‑media content, including infographics, short videos, and human‑interest stories.
* Contribute to LAW’s website, ensuring up‑to‑date, engaging, and accessible content.
* Collaborate on the planning and communications of high‑profile events and launches.
* Support advocacy and fundraising efforts by compelling content development and drafting articles.

About You

* A bachelor’s degree in communications, international relations, human rights, marketing, media relations, or journalism.
* Minimum 4 years of experience in communications, digital media, or social media strategy.
* Experience in journalism is preferred.
* A strong portfolio of impactful content across digital platforms.
* Proficiency in Canva, Adobe tools, and basic video editing.
* Demonstrated experience in photography.
* Track record of using digital marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp).
* Exceptional English and Ukrainian (oral and written); Russian is an added advantage.
* Demonstrated understanding of the law.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.
* Strong demonstrated interest in human rights and experience in international NGO preferred.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong technical literacy.
