We are seeking an experienced commercial lawyer to join the Practical Law team. Practical Law is a leading online know‑how service providing expert‑created, practical maintained content to help legal professionals work smarter and advise with confidence. Practical Law is part of Thomson Reuters, one of the world’s most trusted providers of answers across law, tax, compliance, government and media.
Practical Law editors are experienced legal professionals who sit at the intersection of law, technology and the development of AI‑driven legal solutions, such as CoCounsel. Practical Law content is written in English and therefore fluency in written and spoken English is essential for this role.
About the Role
As a Senior Specialist Legal Editor, Commercial Law & Practice, you will use your technical expertise and substantial experience as a practicing lawyer in commercial law and practice to create and maintain insightful and customer‑focused content for online publication, and to support the development of Thomson Reuters AI‑powered legal solutions.
Responsibilities
* Research, write and maintain clear, current, and practical legal content aligned with market practice, customer needs and business objectives.
* Review and edit content written by others, whether by colleagues or external expert contributors.
* Keep up to date with legal, practice and market developments to ensure content remains accurate and relevant.
* Support the development of customer‑focused Thomson Reuters AI‑powered legal solutions.
* Support the development and application of internal AI editorial tools.
* Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of the legal market, customers, emerging needs and competitors, including interacting with customers, consultation boards and contributors.
* Collaborate with sales, marketing, technology and other business units to deliver insights into business strategies and product development.
* Attend training events, conferences and talks, and network with customers and industry leaders.
* Help with the development of Practical Law Germany and, more generally, with the expansion of Practical Law.
* Assist the wider Thomson Reuters team using specialised legal knowledge, working with product management, sales, marketing and technology functions as needed.
Qualifications
* At least 5 years' post‑qualification experience as a commercial lawyer in a German law firm or in‑house.
* Substantial experience of German commercial law.
* Excellent writing and communication skills in English, with a passion for clear, concise, plain‑English legal content.
* A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and within teams.
* Strong technical skills and the ability to use generative AI technologies to enhance productivity and accuracy.
* Adaptability and flexibility to work on diverse projects and tasks in the generative AI space and with emerging technologies.
* A curious mindset and openness to change, especially regarding the intersection of AI and legal practice.
* Experience using AI tools in legal work.
* Excellent knowledge of online research databases.
* Comfortable working with ambiguity, in a matrixed environment and building relationships with diverse teams.
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Proficient translation skills between German and English legal documentation.
Education / Certification
Must be qualified to practice law in Germany. (#LI-IG1)
