Field Application Engineer | Substation Automation System
Mission
The Field Application Engineer is tasked with applying technical expertise and project management skills to lead, execute and support projects involving complex engineering or technical solutions aligned with customer needs, business goals and industry standards. As the primary contact for customers, they improve customer satisfaction and ensure that projects are delivered successfully with the technical requirements fully met.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Define project objectives, scope and deliverables with customers and stakeholders.
Apply engineering knowledge and expertise to solve complex technical challenges.
Implement and improve the design/concept in line with customer needs and feedback from the field.
Configure the software solution with dedicated tools, carrying out internal tests and subsequent commissioning at the customer‘s premises as well as provide on-site and remote technical support.
Ensure that projects adhere to relevant engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Create project plans, schedules, and budgets and coordinate with supply chain and/or subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of project components.
Maintain accurate project documentation including engineering specifications, generate progress reports and communicate project status to stakeholders.
Identify potential risks and issues and develop mitigation strategies.
Lead or participate to other project activities, such as sales application support and tenders, maintenance or support, and conduct training or workshops to both the project team and the customer.
Occasionally, participate to promotional activities (customer visit, conference, symposium...) with sales team.
The Field Application Engineer SAS may be required to travel within and outside of Switzerland when circumstances dictate.
Certification / educational level
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (electrical or automation) or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Professional experience
Several years of engineering experience, including project management or project engineering roles.
Knowledge, specific skills and abilities
Fluent in German, good level in English and French is required
Proficiency in configuration software and tools
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in interacting with customers at different levels
Customer-oriented
Knowledge of industry-standard project management methodologies
