K2 Photonics is building the next generation femtosecond laser platform for precision sensing and timing applications. Our technology enables real-time, highly sensitive quantification of gases and material properties - bringing lab-grade spectroscopy to the real world.
Role Description
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will work on the mechanical and sys tem-level design of our platform, driving it from late prototype stage through to robust, field-deployable, production-ready systems. This role requires hands-on mechanical design skills to develop rugged solutions for operation in harsh environments, with a clear path to production, and field qualification. The role is ideal for someone who thrives on mechanical challenges where every design decision di rectly impacts optical system performance.
Responsibilities
Design and model mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software.
Own the mechanical realization of system integration considering tolerances, requirements on interfaces and spatial constraints.
Develop rugged, compact, and serviceable enclosures for field-deployable systems.
Ensure component manufacturability, serviceability, and integration readiness.
Design and execute test plans for mechanical, thermal, and vibration robustness.
Analyze failure modes and implement design improvements to enhance reliability and lifetime.
Qualifications
Proven proficiency with 3D CAD software and PDM (SolidWorks preferred).
Proven experience with designing mechanical systems around optical assemblies.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary R&D or product development environment.
More than 3 years of experience in a hardware related role.
Ability to translate high-level system requirements into mechanical design.
Proactive and detail-oriented mindset.
Fluency in English (German is a plus).
