Overview
Our Company supplies and services nuclear power plant technology for more than six decades, delivering reliable and powerful turbine islands for a wide range of reactors, from very large plants to SMRs. We provide turbines, pumps, generators, heat exchangers, controls, and full turnkey turbine islands, with unit outputs ranging from 50 MWe to 1,900 MWe.
We are looking for a talented Global Claims Leader to manage and coordinate claims for our large, complex power‑plant projects, achieving commercial, financial, and scheduling targets. This global role is part of the Contract Management Function.
Roles & Responsibilities
Claim Strategies and Leadership
* Establish project‑specific claim strategies with Commercial Project Managers and implement required actions.
* Lead a team of Claim Managers reporting directly or functionally to this position.
* Guide Claim Managers in setting up and updating Project/Subcontract Claim Procedures.
* Collaborate with Planners/Schedulers to optimize project programs for potential claims.
* Lead Claim Managers in identifying, quantifying, and mitigating claim risks and opportunities.
Commercial Awareness and Tools
* Own the company’s claim management process and tools.
* Increase commercial awareness within the company culture through tools, processes, and training.
* Identify and close claim‑management gaps.
* Implement an effective process for record creation, storage, and access.
* Provide tools and best practices in claim management to project teams.
Claim Management
* Achieve company objectives related to schedule delay, productivity, cost escalation, design issues, and contract interpretations.
* Manage claims across multiple regions and jurisdictions in partnership with legal, planning, insurance, tax, and finance specialists.
* Prepare, negotiate, and settle claims against customers, consortium partners, insurers, subcontractors, and suppliers, and defend against claims against us.
* Establish and run claim‑specific action plans.
* Lead external law firms and consultants in claim preparations.
* Ensure contractual terms, pricing, rates, and productivity are analyzed.
* Review records, contractual notices, time spent, costs incurred, and escalation costs.
* Prepare cause‑and‑effect analysis and critical path using accepted scheduling techniques.
* Identify contractual remedies for recovery of cost and time.
* Compare baseline schedules with executed schedules to determine claim accuracy and fault allocation.
* Collaborate with Planners/Schedulers on delay analyses using recognized methodologies.
* Work with financial controllers to substantiate cost assessments for claims.
* Prepare reports, correspondence, and present claim analysis and findings to negotiate settlements.
* Participate in contract commercial close‑out and settlement negotiation meetings.
* Ensure regular project and commercial meetings with customers, partners, and vendors to review claim progress and settlements.
* Draft and negotiate settlement agreements and change orders.
* Support legal team in arbitration or litigation proceedings related to claims.
* Prepare early case assessments with external experts for dispute‑resolution proceedings.
Reporting
* Maintain claim filing systems and claim registers.
* Lead Claim Review Boards for senior executives on major claims.
* Report claim progress, settlement estimates, and outcomes to senior leadership.
Return on Experience and Trainings
* Provide training on claims management, procedures, tools, and risk identification.
* Own the development of claims‑management expertise by capturing lessons learned and implementing them.
Qualifications (Required)
* University degree in Contract Management, Business, or Law.
* 10+ years experience in claims/contract management in international project and/or construction environments.
* 2+ years leadership experience in claims management.
* Experience with dispute‑resolution proceedings and methodologies.
* Expertise in delay analysis and quantum techniques and methods.
* Strong track record of cost and time‑extension claim preparation and settlement.
* Strong analytical skills to assess, resolve claims, and identify strengths and weaknesses.
* Strong negotiation skills.
* Broad commercial knowledge across multiple disciplines.
* Ability to interpret construction contracts, drawings, and specifications.
* Ability to build claim strategies.
* Solid understanding of EPC contracts and contract law principles.
* Ability to lead, influence, and motivate a team without direct reporting lines.
* Proficient computing skills, especially MS‑Windows, Word, Excel, and other Office applications.
* Fluency in written and spoken English.
* Enjoy working in international teams.
Desirable Qualifications
* Professional certification (ICC, IMI, RICS, IDRRMI, or similar).
* Network of forensic planning and quantum experts.
* Project Management experience or professional registration.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Knowledge of nuclear power plant characteristics and development.
* Open to criticism and able to handle conflicts.
* Cultural awareness and team‑player attitude.
* Primavera P6 scheduling capabilities.
* Additional French language skills.
