For our customer a big pharmaceutical company in Basel we are looking for a Product Safety Specialist - Electronic Diagnostics Instruments (m/w/d).
Background
As Product Safety Specialist (m/f/d) you will be a member of our global unit "Diagnostics Product Sustainability & Compliance". The Compliance Operations department is responsible for the data and processes within Diagnostics Quality & Regulatory that enable a chemical and environmentally compliant and sustainable development, transport/handling, marketing and disposal of all Roche Diagnostics products (the so-called product life cycle). This means that we are not only irreplaceable in ensuring compliance in the interests of our patients, but also pursue the goal of significantly and sustainably reducing the environmental impact of all our products and services.
The perfect candidate
We are looking for a professional with completed studies in environmental sciences, engineering, natural sciences, material sciences, information sciences or comparable. The perfect candidate should have proven experience in the electronics, (medical) device or automotive industry in the product safety environment (EH&S data management, material declaration, product stewardship). The candidate has a sound understanding of the chemical composition of materials, especially those used in electronics, devices and packaging. Experience with chemical legislations (e.g. REACH, RoHS, POP, Cal. Prop 65, TSCA), and Extended Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging, Batteries and WEEE legislation) is required.
Tasks & Responsibilities
* Responsible for comprehensive data management of large chemical legislation datasets within SAP EH&S(M) and, in the future, S/4HANA ensuring compliance and sustainability of electronic devices
* Maintain, develop and improve high‑performance automated data solutions (e.g. using RPA, Python, scripts)
* Ensure data conformity, quality and integrity according to the data model and carry out plausibility checks
* Eliminate waste by simplifying processes, automating redundant manual tasks, and fostering automated report creation
* Interact directly with suppliers, internal customers and subject matter experts to ensure thorough evaluation and accuracy of EH&S data
* Manage EH&S compliance assessments for new product launches and product updates, and manage material changes impacting chemical compliance
* Act as first‑level support contact for data requests and reports from customers
Must Haves
* Master’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, natural sciences, material sciences, information sciences or comparable
* Relevant experience in electronics, (medical) device or automotive industry in the product safety environment
* Strong understanding of chemical composition of materials used in electronics, devices and packaging
* Experience with chemical legislations and EPR obligations (REACH, RoHS, POP, Cal. Prop 65, TSCA, packaging, batteries, WEEE)
* Knowledge of global chemical regulatory legislation and EPR obligations
* Affinity for handling large datasets, process automation and data science for supplier governance
* Understanding of system and data management for material declarations and compliance documentation
* Negotiation skills, efficient communication and ability to place material information requests
* Ability to maintain trusting relationships with suppliers
* Experience with agile project management, automation tools (RPA, Python, scripts) and MS Office or Google Suite
* Fluent in English (verbal and written)
