The Institute for Accounting of the University of Bern, Managerial Accounting section (Prof. Dr. Markus C. Arnold) is seeking to fill a PhD position.
Candidates need to have a Master’s degree (or be close to completion) in business administration, economics or a related subject and have an interest in research in the field of managerial accounting.
We expect very good knowledge of managerial accounting and agency theory or psychological theories. Knowledge of experimental research methods or survey research is desirable.
Fluency in German and/or English is required.
Successful applicants become part of the Swiss Doctoral Program Network in Accounting Research (DAR-CH) jointly organized by the Universities of Basel, Bern, Neuchâtel, and Zurich. The network partners provide PhD candidates with the opportunity to participate in doctoral courses offered by the three universities and their network partners.
The program offers possibilities for international mobility and network building within the academic accounting community.
The salary will be determined according to the applicant’s qualifications in accordance with the regulations of the University of Bern and the Swiss National Fund. The starting date is planned for the beginning of the Spring term 2026 with flexibility to consider individual circumstances.
