The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) and the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) are inviting applications for a position of:

Physician, Head of the Pediatric and Adolescent Surgery Division (SCEA), with a professor title in the field of pediatric surgery within the Woman-Mother-Child Department (DFME)

Starting date: August 2027 or TBA

Place: Lausanne, Switzerland

The SCEA at the CHUV is the reference center for the Canton de Vaud in this field. To ensure optimal care for all pediatricsurgical conditions, and by collaborating with regional hospitals, the Division operates within a multidisciplinary and academic environment while working closely with other services at the CHUV. As pediatric surgery is the specialized field dedicated to treating surgical conditions in growing bodies, the Division treats children with congenital malformations, diseases, or the consequences of accidents; this includes preoperative investigations, surgical treatments, and peri- and postoperative care from the prenatal period through the end of growth. Comprehensive care for all conditions affecting children and adolescents—whether common or rare—regardless of whether they require surgery, aims to optimize their development to ensure a good quality of life, while considering and involving the family and social environment. Staff provide 24/7 care and have access to outstanding technical facilities to perform both simple and complex procedures across a wide range of pediatric specialties.

Main missions:

Lead, organize, and manage the development of all highly specialized medical activities within a university pediatric surgery division.

Ensure and enhance the expertise and quality of the division’s clinical services while developing multidisciplinary and interinstitutional collaborations and synergies in line with the CHUV’s strategic plan.

Coordinate, lead, and develop high‑level clinical and academic research, funded by peer‑reviewed external grants and published in high‑impact scientific journals.

Ensure and lead undergraduate training programs (as per FBM requirements), graduate training programs (ISFM training center, cat. A1) and continuing education programs in the discipline, serving as the official head of the discipline.

Ensure a high‑quality pipeline of medical and scientific talent, strengthen the clinical and academic influence of the division both internally and externally, and collaborate with hospitals of the Fédération des hôpitaux vaudois (FHV) and neighboring cantons.

Note: The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the recruitment of a Senior physician, Head of the pediatric orthopedic surgery Unit included in the SCEA.

Desired profile:

Federal medical degree (or mandatory Mebeko recognition), MD or MD‑PhD.

Specialist title in pediatric or infant surgery (ISFM or Mebeko recognition mandatory).

Extensive clinical experience in tertiary‑level pediatric surgery.

Proven managerial skills in leading a numerous team, training the next generation of academic physicians, and extensive experience in project management.

Expertise with proven experience at the professorial level in undergraduate and graduate teaching.

Ability to establish clinical research programs (with external funding).

Good knowledge of French (ideally LM or C1, minimum B2 with the ability to improve rapidly).

A track record demonstrating exemplary professional conduct: the successful candidate must provide full assurance of integrity and compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements of the position.
