The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is seeking a dynamic Press and Media Officer to lead our media engagement and storytelling efforts translating complex scientific insights into compelling narratives that resonate worldwide.
The WMO role matters because it connects the organization with the public, policymakers, and international partners, elevating visibility and credibility across global media platforms on issues like climate action, early warning systems, and disaster risk reduction.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
World Meteorological Organization – Press and Media Officer
Under the supervision of the Chief, Global Communication and Engagement, responsibilities include leading global media strategy, building media relationships, crafting high-impact media materials, coordinating high-profile media moments, monitoring media impact, supporting crisis and strategic communications, training spokespeople, and collaborating across the UN system.
* Lead global media strategy and position WMO as a trusted source of science-based information.
* Build and manage relationships with international media, journalists, editors, and broadcasters.
* Produce press releases, op-eds, media kits, and talking points that reflect WMO priorities.
* Design and execute media strategies for flagship reports, emergency responses, and global events.
* Monitor media coverage, assess reputational risks, and advise senior leadership.
* Develop FAQs, messaging, and media plans for sensitive issues and high-stakes moments.
* Provide media coaching and tools to WMO experts and Member States.
* Represent WMO in inter-agency platforms and campaigns to amplify partnerships.
AfD – Communications Officer (Volunteer)
Action for Development seeks a volunteer Communications Officer to support communication tasks. Ideal candidate has a background in media and communications, familiarity with Swiss NGO regulations, and knowledge of humanitarian programs.
* Promote AfD image on social media and run online fundraising campaigns.
* Prepare communication materials such as annual reports and newsletters.
* Regularly update content for English/French websites.
* Develop communication content for external partners and donors.
* Draft web stories and liaise with the Kabul team for updates and photos.
Qualifications
World Meteorological Organization – Qualifications
* Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field. A first-level degree with two years relevant experience may be accepted.
* Experience: Seven years in press relations or media management, preferably international or scientific context. Familiarity with UN communications is desirable.
* Other: Strong writing and editorial skills; ability to translate technical content for broad audiences.
AfD – Qualifications
* Degree or current study in Business, Marketing, or Communications; English fluency; French is an asset.
* Excellent verbal and written communication; detail-oriented and organized; NGO experience preferred.
* Unpaid part-time volunteer position; hybrid work; based in Geneva preferred.

* Strong news sense, platform dynamics understanding, stakeholder engagement, and ability to work in multicultural contexts.
* Ability to translate complex ideas into accessible digital formats; strong writing and editorial skills.

* Annual net base salary on initial appointment: US$ 84,672
* Annual post adjustment on initial salary: US$ 75,104
