Commissioning Technician

This position is full‑time and reports directly to the Vice President of Construction. A complete understanding of industrial ammonia refrigeration, electrical power, and controls is essential. The Technician will take full responsibility for the entire commissioning process, including team and site safety, management of controls/PLC engineers, additional service technicians, refrigerant loading, power initiation at 460 Volt, and all mechanical system interfaces.

Key Duties
Lead commissioning of new and retrofitted industrial refrigeration systems (food, beverage, general industry, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, refrigerated storage) ranging from 500 HP to 10,000 HP.
Manage risk for site startup when working with ammonia, CO₂, and Freon systems.
Adhere to all work‑safety policies, procedures, and governing requirements; lead work with engineers and technicians; take full responsibility for team success and customer satisfaction.
Initial commissioning of industrial screw compressors, reciprocal compressors, recirculators, refrigerant pumps, chillers, evaporators, condensers (water‑, air‑, evaporative‑cooled), water pumps, dispersion tanks, process freezers, freeze dryers, plate freezers, and other customer processes attached to refrigeration systems. Serve as lead engineer over the entire commissioning process.
Provide training to customers on plant operation after commissioning is completed.
Meet with customer/owner at project completion to transfer plant operations and support to the company’s aftermarket team.
Requirements
Minimum of 10+ years industrial refrigeration experience.
Field experience with startup of carbon dioxide cascade systems, single & multi‑stage ammonia and Freon systems.
Universal EPA certification.
RETA 1 & 2 certification.
Commission refrigeration equipment and complete industrial/commercial systems.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues.
Failure analysis of mechanical parts and electrical components.
Minimize commissioning issues and reduce start‑up delays.
Willingness to travel full‑time on a 10‑day on/4‑day off rotational schedule based on team needs.
Excellent physical condition: climb ladders, wear respirator, work 10–12 hour days, occasional heavy lifting.
Pre‑employment drug screening, felony screening, and motor‑vehicle record screening required.
Must be able to wear a respirator and pass a fit test.
Preferences
Commissioning school training from Frick/Johnson Controls, GE, Bitzer, or other recognized programs.
