Automation Engineer (MES / GMP Manufacturing)
Language requirements: Fluent English required; German is a plus
Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to support two large-scale greenfield CAPEX projects within GMP manufacturing environments in Switzerland.
Currently in the conceptual design phase, these projects will move into execution from April onwards. The Automation Engineer will play a key role in supporting the implementation and integration of MES systems (PAS-X) and automation solutions across newly built production facilities.
This position will work closely with internal automation teams, digital/IT functions, and OEM vendors to ensure the successful delivery of compliant and scalable manufacturing systems.
* Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline
* Minimum 4+ years of experience as an Automation Engineer within GMP manufacturing environments
* Strong experience with automation systems (PLC, SCADA, process control systems)
* Experience working with MES systems (ideally PAS-X / Werum)
* Experience supporting integration of vendor-packaged equipment into manufacturing environments
* Understanding of GMP and regulated environments
* Experience working on CAPEX, expansion, or greenfield projects
* Ability to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors
Preferred Requirements
* Experience with Siemens PCS7 systems (not essential, can be supported internally)
* Exposure to MES system upgrades, lifecycle management, or system integration
* Experience working alongside IT/digital teams on system integration
* Familiarity with validation or qualification environments (IQ/OQ/PQ)
* Experience in biopharmaceutical or API manufacturing environments
Key Responsibilities
* Support implementation and integration of automation systems within new GMP manufacturing facilities
* Work on MES (PAS-X) systems, including system integration and support during project execution
* Collaborate with internal automation, IT, and engineering teams to ensure system alignment
* Support integration of vendor-packaged equipment into the site automation landscape
* Work closely with OEM vendors to ensure systems meet project and regulatory requirements
* Contribute to commissioning and start-up activities from an automation perspective
* Support system troubleshooting, optimisation, and lifecycle activities
Practicalities
* Start Date: April (aligned with project execution phase)
* Contract Duration: 12+ months (strong extension potential)
* Location: Switzerland – on-site presence required
* Project Phase: Transition from conceptual design → execution
