General Description
The position requires the candidate to provide necessary cover for teachers of all classes in the Middle School at our Zug Campus (Gr 6 – Gr 8 including specialist lessons). The Substitute Teacher for the Middle School works in collaboration with the Assistant Principals to provide cover for teachers who may be absent due to illness or attending Professional Development.
Substitute teachers are not hired under a formal contract, and work is offered on an as-needed basis. Days and times of work may vary and are not guaranteed.
The Substitute Teacher for the Middle School is expected to:
Main Responsibilities
1. Provide cover for teachers or Assistant Teachers in the Middle School under the direction of the Assistant Principals.
2. Be aware of those students with particular medical needs, learning needs (EAL, LS) or behavioral needs
3. Closely follow the plans/guide for the day provided by the teacher
4. Provide appropriate feedback to students about their learning
5. Be mindful of the routines and structures used by the teacher and explain any changes to the routine to students
6. Provide feedback for the teacher about the day's learning, about the students and share any potential cause for concern
7. Communicate in general terms to parents, referring any questions or concerns to the teacher
8. Support students and faculty in outdoor learning and lunchroom supervision
9. Other duties as assigned by the Middle School Principal or Assistant Principals
Required and Preferred Qualifications
10. Qualified and experienced teacher preferably across a range of ages
11. Excellent organizational skills
12. Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills in English
13. Ability to work effectively in a team as well as to show initiative and work independently
14. Ability to maintain confidentiality, function effectively under pressure and be flexible
15. A pleasant and friendly personality
16. Candidates must have a Swiss or EU passport/valid Swiss work permit (or be approved for a Swiss work visa)
Compensation
Compensation for this position will be commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and is very competitive globally.
