For our client we are currently looking for a Financial Director
Our client is a tech-bio startup that develops cutting-edge AI methods in genome, protein and large language models to accelerate drug discovery and translational medicine. Due to their rapid growth they are looking to expand their Data/AI Engineering team Basel, Zurich and Lausanne.
YOUR ROLE:
We are looking for a highly entrepreneurial and strategically-minded Financial Director to lead all financial operations and play a critical role in fundraising, investor relations, and long-term financial strategy. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment and is passionate about being involved with cutting-edge AI Products and Services.
You will be instrumental in ensuring financial processes, capital structure, and communicating our value proposition to a diverse range of stakeholders, including venture capital firms and strategic partners.
Exceptional candidates demonstrating significant leadership and strategic acumen will be considered for advancement to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position.
YOUR TASKS:
Strategic Financial Leadership
Act as a key strategic partner to the CEO and Board, providing financial insights and guidance to inform critical business decisions and drive the company's growth trajectory.
Contribute to the overall business strategy, financial planning, budgeting and operational planning.
Lead the financial aspects and modelling of strategic initiatives, including potential M&A, partnerships, and new product launches.
Spearhead fundraising efforts, including preparing compelling financial models, pitch decks, and investor-facing materials for equity and debt financing rounds.
Maintain strong relationships with venture capital (VC) firms, angel investors, strategic corporate investors, and other funding sources in the AI, Tech, and Biotech space
Develop and maintain robust financial models, including long-range forecasts, scenario planning, and detailed annual budgets
Manage cash flow effectively, ensuring sufficient liquidity to support rapid growth and operational needs.
Accounting, Reporting & Compliance
Oversee all accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with Swiss accounting standards (e.g., Swiss GAAP FER or IFRS, as applicable) and regulatory requirements.
Manage the preparation of quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Coordinate and manage external audits and ensure compliance with all tax regulations.
Board & Stakeholder Communication:
Prepare financial reports, presentations, and analyses for Board meetings
Present financial performance, forecasts, and strategic financial initiatives to the Board of Directors and key stakeholders.
Team Leadership & Operations Oversight:
Build and lead a high-performing finance team.
Provide financial oversight for the Legal, Human Resources (HR) and Accounting functions, ensuring efficient operations and strategic alignment.
REQUIREMENTS
Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field; a Swiss CPA, CFA, or equivalent professional financial qualification is highly desirable.
Minimum of 8 years of financial leadership experience, with significant tenure in high-growth startup environments, preferably in the technology or biotech sectors.
Expertise in successful venture capital fundraising rounds, including direct involvement in investor pitches, negotiations, and deal closing.
Proven track record of managing startup valuations, convertible notes, and equity rounds.
Strong understanding of Swiss financial regulations and international accounting standards.
Entrepreneurial mindset with hands-on approach and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic startup environment.
Deep expertise in financial modelling, forecasting, budgeting, and performance analysis.
Proficiency with financial software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
Solid understanding of legal aspects related to corporate finance and investment agreements.
