Biomarker and Experimental Medicine Leader - Cardiovascular, Metabolism and Immunology
Join us at Roche to lead biomarker and experimental medicine initiatives within the Cardiovascular, Metabolism and Immunology (CMI) Discovery and Translational Area of our Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) organization. You will design and implement biomarker strategies that drive discovery and clinical development from pre‑clinical to phase III, collaborating closely with scientists, clinicians, and global project teams.
Responsibilities
* You are the go‑to expert for biomarker activities, working with scientists and clinicians to develop biomarker programmes for preclinical and clinical projects. You lead multidisciplinary teams and contribute as an individual contributor to global project and clinical expert groups, taking full accountability for the clinical biomarker strategy up to approval.
* You integrate input from technical experts to develop, implement and adjust state‑of‑the‑art analytical concepts, defining scientific, clinical, validation and statistical foundations for proposed biomarkers. You are accountable for interpreting biomarker data and communicating results to technical experts, senior leadership, governance bodies, clinical investigators and health authorities. You own biomarker‑specific sections in internal and external documents such as study protocols and regulatory reports.
* You integrate preclinical, clinical and real‑world data to guide indication selection and develop patient enrichment options that increase the probability of clinical success. You design and lead translational research studies and projects in partnership with internal and external collaborators, prioritising and harmonising biomarker platforms across the portfolio.
* You stay current on novel biomarker modalities and technologies, serving centrally in the design and implementation of overarching biomarker strategies and capabilities within the Discovery and Translational Area. You also act as the biomarker lead on Due Diligence teams evaluating external licensing opportunities and acquisitions.
Qualifications
* PhD, MD or MD/PhD in a relevant scientific field (e.g., cardiovascular, metabolism, immunology, or molecular biology) with profound experience in biomarker discovery and development.
* At least 5 years of experience beyond post‑doctoral training in drug development and translational research, with a strong publication record or equivalent contributions.
* Previous experience supporting clinical studies, including planning and execution of biomarker programmes and successful implementation of internal and external biomarker activities. Expertise in generating and interpreting data from diverse sample types and technologies for proof of biology, dose selection and enrichment.
* Deep understanding of mechanisms underlying cardiovascular, metabolic and/or immune‑mediated diseases, and the strategic ability to implement clinical biomarker readouts that capture the underlying biology. Expertise in imaging‑based biomarkers (MRI/DXA/PET) is a plus.
As a team player, you integrate easily into a proactive global organization. You can work as an individual contributor or as an experienced matrix leader and decision maker, with strong presentation and leadership skills to influence and motivate teams. You prioritize your work to focus on individual goals as well as team deliverables, and you exhibit strong critical thinking and data‑driven decision making. A strong interest in state‑of‑the‑art technologies is desirable.
