Job Description
To support this mission, we are seeking a Hybrid Group Leader PT Sourcing Support. This role is based in Münchwilen, Switzerland, but can also be filled in Nantong, China.
Role Purpose
The Group Leader PT Sourcing Support leads a team of 3‑8 direct reports (process chemists, engineers) and recruits, coaches, and develops group members. Besides managing the team, the leader builds and maintains process technology expertise, and develops and delivers the techno‑commercial strategy for existing third‑party active ingredients (AIs) or Syngenta AIs that are no longer produced in‑house. The leader also acts as a technical consultant on sourcing, outsourcing, technology transfer projects and selected development and capital projects, and contributes to strategic initiatives within Process Technology and Global Production and Supply.
Accountabilities
* For externally manufactured AIs, develop a technology and IP strategy and establish targets and resource requirements to meet the needs of Global Supply life cycle management of existing AI’s and selected new technology development and new AI introduction.
* Act as global AI Technology Lead (AITL) for one or more AI’s and support other AITL within the group to deliver technology strategies.
* Establish or regain technology ownership for third‑party produced AI’s and intermediates, aligned with agreed priorities and shortlist.
* Close collaboration with Technology, Sourcing, and Procurement groups.
* Responsible for a small group of experts, improving manufacturing at third parties.
* Plan and manage the deployment of technical resources to meet the objectives and priorities of P&S in existing process development and manufacturing support.
* In conjunction with the Technology & Sourcing Manager, lead the technical transfer of manufacturing processes to third parties (outsourcing) or other Syngenta facilities (technology transfer); coordinate technical support to sourcing projects (new RMs, intermediates).
* Lead the identification and evaluation of areas for process improvement in the manufacture of existing AIs to reduce costs, improve quality and process reliability, and develop capacity and flexibility in line with Supply Chain strategies.
* Develop and coach members of the group to achieve higher professional/technical and managerial standards, maximize their potential, and continuously improve effectiveness in meeting Global Supply needs, including training/ coaching in behaviours and leadership skills.
* Work closely with the PTNAI and PTAI teams in CHMU, CHMZ, and CHMO to access laboratory resources, specialist teams and new technologies (PHS, PAT, Continuous Technologies, Digital Tools, etc.).
* Foster interdisciplinary teamwork, collaboration, and networking.
* Be part of the wider PT community globally.
* Inspire a culture of continuous improvement in HSE and Quality in lab teams and for the manufacturing processes to meet the highest standards in accordance with Syngenta HSE and Quality policy.
* As a member of the leadership team, take an active part in shaping the future of the global process development department.
* Participate in resource allocation in line with department priorities and ensure optimal resource utilization.
Qualifications
* Degree or PhD in a relevant technical field (chemistry, chemical process engineering).
* Excellent HSE awareness and expertise in process hazards and safety.
* Detailed knowledge of systems for process change and their implications on product quality – formulation, regulatory, etc.
* Fluent English language knowledge.
* German or French is an advantage.
* Excellent communication and partnering skills.
* Applied project and portfolio management skills.
* Willingness to travel globally and to spend a significant amount of working time in Basel.
* Experience with digital tools (LLM, etc.).
* Track record in people leadership and development.
* Track record in working within project timelines in a dynamic environment.
* Demonstrated influencing, communication, and networking (building and maintaining) skills.
* Examples of change leadership.
* Track record in chemical/technical scale‑up, piloting, and manufacturing.
* Significant practical experience in the agrochemical or related industries.
