PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
We are seeking a Senior Commodity Trader (Physical and Paper) to join our Trading Department, reporting into the Head of Trading. The Senior Commodity Trader will negotiate and execute physical and paper trades. He / She will extend worldwide trading activities by developing new flows in new regions based on a strong footprint the company already has in the West Africa region. He / She will coordinate activities within the team, in other Company offices, specifically in Dubai and Singapore, in order to extract added value from trades. The incumbent is expected to ensure and align with the Risk department that, at any time, paper and physical positions are within the limits defined by the company and the books properly hedged. He / She will coordinate and propose physical and hedging strategies for the various entities of the Sahara Group. The Senior Trader will be required to work with Function Heads, Risk & Middle Office, Brokers and Financial Institutions.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Physical Trading
* Overlooking the company’s physical trading and hedging
* Marketing in house cargoes and extract the best value
* Developing relationships with existing customers and develop new ones
* Developing new flows / clients for short- and long-term periods across the world.
* Coordinating purchases and sales with Singapore and Dubai offices to create a global book.
* Working closely with shipping to be able to trade cargoes on a DES basis
* Developing and implementing trading strategies and lead negotiation of term contracts
* Developing and enhancing commercial relationships with industry participants
* Participating on valuation for new project (EP, long term deals, …)
* Understanding pricing exposure and executing hedging in the market to enhance the book’s performance
* Providing strategic leadership for trading team in risk management to allow flexibility in trading and hedge optimization strategies.
* Managing a speculative book using risk parameters decided by management (Recommended Var and position limits) in the objective of locking in profits.
* Taking advantage of market volatility to put strategies in place in a way to generate PnL: arbitrages, technical analysis, Relative values trades.
Other Duties
* Helping Middle Office and Operations teams to improve risk and physical representation in the system.
* Providing an « in-house market intelligence » on oil and gas markets supply and demand, market conditions regarding volumes, prices, competition, dynamics, etc
* Anticipating cash flow due to the short, middle and long-term activity.
* Developing tools to add value to oil and gas flows into the US, Europe and Asia regions, allowing optimization to buy / sell oil and gas products in the different regions.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
* Masters Degree in Engineering is required
* Minimum of 10 years experience on Oil or Gas Trading activities in big trading houses
* Fluent in English, both written and spoken; French is a plus
* Demonstrated ability to build and execute trading strategies and deals.
* Experience in utilizing trading tools (ICE, CME, ETRM, etc. ) and specific legal and regulatory rules
* Knowledge of the global oil and gas marketplace including extended network and fundamental analysis (SnD, Technical’s).
* Knows how to trade within Var and drawdown limits
* Successful track record on oil and gas trading activity in trading houses with significant PnL over the years.
* Demonstrate capacity to develop new businesses from scratch.
* Track record of taking full advantage of market conditions to optimize trading books
* Able to implement controls & systems
* Knowledge in coding would be a plus
