What you will do:
The primary purpose of the role is to evaluate, recommend and approve transactions, exceptions and annual reviews for HSBC Private Bank Switzerland and its Guernsey Branch within a personal approval authority and to ensure prudent and well-structured credit proposals that minimise credit losses.
In this role you will:
* Assist the Head of PBRS Credit Risk in assessing on a continuous basis the credit quality of the allocated portfolio, appropriateness of Customer Risk Ratings and approved limits, as well as emerging signs of concern warrant Watch, Worry, Monitor status.
* Enforce credit risk policies and group guidelines through close collaboration with the Credit Advisory team.
* Liaise with the Wholesale Credit Risk and Group Risk teams in the UK to seek concurrence for large credit facilities including providing clear well considered and balanced credit risk recommendations to senior credit risk approvers.
* Perform second line assurance activities including the spot checks of credit advisory debtor listing/shortfall exception reports, sampling.
* Work constructively with the Business whilst demonstrating an ability to stand firm where appropriate and in the face of pressure, to ensure that the right risk/reward balance is achieved in terms of its credit activities. This requires a certain character and an ability to convince with good communication and influencing skills. It also requires the ability to understand complex deals in order to have the informed confidence that will allow the Bank’s credit risk to be managed within set boundaries.
* Ensure credit risks within Private Banking portfolios are minimised, leading to a long-term quality loan portfolio earning a satisfactory return. Understand risk profile of the lending portfolios, enhancing quality by providing concise/clear/pertinent action/recommendations.
You should apply if you have:
* Ability to work under pressure and in a context of urgent deadlines.
* Strong financial and non-financial analytical skills ideally including experience of corporate and cash flow lending, together with a good understanding of structural subordination issues and related legal risks.
* Real estate lending experience would also be an advantage.
* University degree, preferably in Finance/ Economics.
* Successful track record in Credit/Risk.
* Good understanding of private banking needs for credit products including understanding of various financial instruments and derivatives and with a global outlook.
* Capacity to work independently on specific tasks and with a strong eye for detail.
* Due to immigration restrictions in Switzerland we will only be able to consider applications from Swiss or EU citizens or from candidates holding a valid Swiss work permit.
