Join the Education, Communications and Outreach group in the International Relation sector at CERN - take part!
Science in School is the European journal for science teachers, supporting teachers in delivering curricula by connecting them to inspiring, cutting-edge science and technology. It is a collaborative effort by EIROForum, comprising eight European research organizations. Science in School covers the life, physical, environmental, and computational sciences and engineering.
You will report to the Executive Editor and work closely with the educational teams of the eight sponsoring organizations and the CERN writing team. Your role will involve providing administrative and editorial support to assist with content acquisition and journal production.
You will join the International Relations Sector (IR), Education, Communications and Outreach Group (ECO), responsible for maintaining support for CERN's mission, generating public engagement, fostering community-building, and raising societal awareness of CERN’s impact.
As Science in School Editorial Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
Engaging in routine correspondence with authors, reviewers, and subscribers.
Copy-editing submitted articles.
Checking articles and video scripts, including formatting references.
Maintaining documents and archiving systems.
Researching images and videos, securing rights, and documenting sources.
Preparing and uploading website content, including videos.
Compiling quarterly email newsletters.
Generating website analytics reports.
Contributing to social media channels.
Managing article translation processes.
Providing additional support to the editor as needed.

Your profile
Skills required:
Excellent English writing and editing skills.
Experience in science communication and a strong interest in education.
Experience in editing and proofreading.
Interest and experience in social media.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Exceptional attention to detail for accuracy and quality.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and work independently or in a team.
Fluent in spoken and written English, with a commitment to learning French.

Eligibility criteria
You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .
By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience in Communication, STEM, or related fields, and your highest educational qualification is a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
You have not previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
Applicants without a university degree are not eligible.
Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
Additional Information
Job closing date: 12.08.2025 at 23:59 CEST .
Contract duration: 24 months, with possible extension up to 36 months.
Working hours: 40 hours/week
