Your Role And Responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience through a temporary work placement. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting ABB's operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.
The Work Model For The Role Is
This role is contributing to the mechanical development R&D team at ABB Traction in Untersiggenthal.
Designed and produced in Switzerland, ABB Traction's Energy Storage Systems (ESS) power traction applications across the globe.
You would be responsible for analyzing and understanding the mechanical forces acting on solder nuts and their solder joints during the assembly process to ensure reliable product performance. This includes developing methods, simulations, and validation strategies to identify critical failure modes and define robust acceptance criteria for production.
You Will Be Mainly Accountable For
Understanding the assembly process and technical challenges
Choosing appropriate simulation and calculation approaches
Defining measurement methods to verify simulation results
Establishing acceptance criteria for routine production testing
You will join a highly motivated and multidisciplinary team that is engaged in product development, where you will be able to thrive.
Qualifications For The Role
Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Mechatronics, or a related field (advanced B.Sc. or M.Sc.); official enrolment required
Practical experience and solid skills in general laboratory work
Experience with CAD (Creo), Python, MATLAB is beneficial
Knowledge of manufacturing methods as well as FEM simulations (e.g., Ansys), is an advantage
Committed, self‑motivated, able to manage own tasks professionally while collaborating effectively in a large development team; capable of handling multiple assignments simultaneously
You are at ease communicating inGerman as well as English
