The Principal Performance Engineer within the Steam Power Services Engineering organization will lead projects with broad scope and high impact and is a recognized leader in steam turbine Performance Engineering, including thermodynamic steam path design and steam power plant thermodynamic cycle modeling.
Role Summary/Purpose
The Principal Performance Engineer will lead projects with broad scope and high impact, recognized for expertise in steam turbine Performance Engineering, thermodynamic steam path design, and cycle modeling.
Essential Responsibilities
Accountable for performance engineering objectives, developing thermodynamics processes aligned with business needs.
Contribute to long-term planning and strategy within Performance Engineering.
Identify, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions for performance needs across GE blading technologies.
Provide technical leadership supporting projects, including design reviews.
Review and approve thermodynamics outputs in various project processes.
Stay updated with state-of-the-art technology, design processes, and software development.
Identify training needs and recommend improvements in thermodynamics knowledge.
Lead integration of new technology into design processes and develop software tools.
Support internal and external customers and suppliers as needed.
Provide technical consultation to improve manufacturing, product, and field issues.
Communicate technical data effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
Market proposals and prepare invention disclosures to protect technology and intellectual property.
Lead or support investigations and study teams addressing technical problems.
Support productivity improvement initiatives.
Qualifications / Requirements
Experience in thermal steam path design and thermal modeling of steam/water cycles in turbomachinery.
MEng / BEng (or equivalent) – Class 2:2 or above.
Desired Characteristics
Extensive experience in steam turbine thermodynamic design and power plant cycles.
Project management experience in multidisciplinary settings.
Ability to document, plan, and manage programs to enhance business capabilities.
Strong problem analysis and resolution skills.
Leadership in setting standards in Thermodynamics, with teaching ability.
Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with senior executives.
Self-motivated with a positive attitude.
Willingness to travel within GE network and to customer sites.
