Assist the First Electrician in repairing and maintaining electrical equipment and machinery. Responsibilities include maintaining high and low voltage electrical facilities. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. The First Electrician may assist in watchkeeping routines as directed by the Engine Officer Chief Watch. Additionally, assist the ship’s engineer with various electrical issues.
Extensive successful experience in a similar position within MSC or another shipping company is required.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Be available on board as arranged with the Chief Electrician during the First Electrician's absence.
2. Consult daily with the Chief Electrician on methods and procedures for maintaining and repairing electrical equipment both inside and outside the engine room.
3. Assign maintenance and repair duties to electricians and supervise overhaul and repair work.
4. Inspect ongoing work and upon completion, ensure optimal use of manpower, proper execution according to standards, and prevent material wastage.
5. Assign maintenance duties within the engine department, supervise work, and ensure efficient use of manpower and resources.
6. Supervise the use of materials, ensuring safety for personnel and equipment.
7. Ensure proper disposal of garbage in compliance with international, national, and company regulations.
8. Train personnel in safe working practices, ensuring understanding and adherence to standards.
9. Prepare requisitions for spare parts and submit for approval.
10. Control the issuance and use of materials to prevent waste.
11. Operate with consideration for guest comfort.
12. Oversee maintenance of all electrical equipment aboard the ship and within the engine room.
