AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) drives revenue, adoption, and growth across small- and mid-market accounts to enterprise-level customers, including public sector. AWS Specialist Solutions Architects (SSAs) are technologists with deep domain-specific expertise who design scalable, flexible, and resilient technical architectures. They guide customers in refactoring applications or building new cloud-based systems, capture feedback, advocate for roadmap enhancements, and produce technical content such as whitepapers, blogs, and workshops.
Key job responsibilities
As a specialist, you will combine technical credibility with strong teamwork. You will learn and introduce new technologies, influence how customers view technology, and collaborate across AWS services, field solutions architecture, sales, marketing, business development, and professional services. You will represent your team to executive management and help organizations adopt best practices for operating on AWS.
Basic Qualifications
- Exposure to designing and deploying production workloads (OLTP/OLAP)
- Knowledge of data engineering pipelines, ETL management, visualizations, and analytical platforms
- Experience with database migrations (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server) to managed database services in the cloud such as RDS and Aurora in customer-facing roles
- Experience with at least one non-relational database
- 8+ years of experience in a technology domain such as database architecture, software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with non-relational databases/data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases)
- Knowledge of databases such as SQL, MySQL, and ETL manager and working with large data sets
- Experience designing solutions that combine relational and non-relational data stores, aligning with long-term data and analytics strategy (e.g., integrating RDS/Aurora with analytics and AI services)
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executives; prior experience in a technical role supporting sales or pre-sales (workshops, whiteboarding, PoCs)
- Experience leading customer engagements: discovery, requirements, architecture reviews, migration planning, and delivering technical workshops or proof-of-concepts
- Thought-leadership activities such as writing blogs/whitepapers, creating reference architectures, and presenting at events
- Enjoy learning and introducing new technologies to help colleagues and customers adopt solutions
