PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
We are looking for a
Senior Charterer
to join our Chartering team. This is a permanent position based in Geneva and reports to the Head of Chartering.
In this role, you will primarily focus on chartering and freight trading for clean and dirty product tankers, while the ability to work with crude and LNG is also considered advantageous. This will include spot and Time Charter activities, as well as freight trading both in the physical and derivatives markets. Analytics are an important component of the chartering role, developing an understanding of how the markets trade from a ground-up approach. Objective is to create profitable book for the chartering desk, whilst supporting the daily chartering needs of the oil trading desk.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
* Work with oil trading desks within company to seek optimal logistics solutions in wet and paper freight trading. Be proactive in looking for opportunities that might give traders an "edge".
* Manage physical freight trading positions in support of the chartering desk goals/targets, while also utilising derivatives trading tools for exposure management.
* Build a physical Timecharter book in line with chartering desks requirements and goals.
* Keep chartering/trading systems fully updated, input concluded by close of business on the day a deal is completed or as required by a particular location. Close contact must be maintained with the finance / Credit / compliance / KYC / Trade Control teams to ensure trading practices are correct and compliance.
* Liaise with counterparties (owners/brokers/charterers) around the world and therefore with varying time differences. Gather market information, assessing the accuracy of such and dispensing this around the chartering and trading team. Build relationships with other Charterer's and Owners as a customer base.
* Deal generation is very high and the ability to work under pressure is an extremely important attribute to have. It must be understood that working hours are not standard.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
* Bachelor's Degree or Qualification in Shipping/Freight trading, preferred.
* Minimum 7 years commercial shipping experience, in chartering/freight trading. Experience in working for owner / TC operator is preferred
* Fluent in both written and spoken English
* Very good knowledge of paper instruments utilized for hedging and speculative trading.
* Excellent negotiator with a bias for action with proven track record of initiative and complex problem solving.
* Strong experience with dealing with products shipping in the geographical area of West Africa is an advantage.
* IT literate, competent user of Excel and MS Applications and proficient in trading platforms.
