For more information: vitol.comJob DescriptionThis Data Science position is embedded within the Analytics Team, which plays a pivotal role in developing tools and analyses that drive the day-to-day operations of Vitol. The successful candidate will leverage data science and machine learning to revolutionize how Vitol tracks and anticipates commodity movements across the globe.While regular collaboration with the central Data Science team is expected, this role is uniquely positioned within the team of developers and analysts focused on vessel and cargo flows. This setup fosters knowledge exchange, process improvements, and regular interaction with various business units that depend on these analyses.The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach, ready to dive deep into data, build models, create visualizations, and deliver actionable insights as needed. They will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be motivated by seeing their work have an immediate impact on Vitol’s operations.Key ResponsibilitiesBe an energetic and enthusiastic team member, uniquely positioned to harness the power of data to transform the inner workings of the commodities industryGain a deep understanding of Vitol’s core operations and develop creative solutions using data, automation, analytics, models, and optimization to enhance these operationsExplore new datasets and external vendor predictions/algorithms, extract meaningful insights, and present results through visualizations to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersWork closely with domain experts to design and implement machine learning solutions that are both understandable and usable by non-technical stakeholdersCollaborate with the central Data Science team and IT department to leverage existing tools and capabilities to deliver value to the businessQualificationsDegree in Computer Science, Data Science, or equivalent experienceStrong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and machine learning or equivalent experienceExtensive experience in exploring and extracting insights from heterogeneous multi-dimensional datasets is essentialProficiency in Python with the ability to write clean, modular, well-documented code in a collaborative development environmentPreferred, but not essential, requirements:Experience with geospatial/location data and analysisExperience building models using common integration patterns (REST, GRPC)Exposure to GenAI approaches, including design and implementation on MCP endpointsAdditional InformationPersonal CharacteristicsProven experience in working within an Agile Scrum development modelEntrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a teamProactive and user-focused approach, embodying a "make it work" mentality, with a genuine interest in both the functional and technical aspects of challenges encounteredStrong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration across diverse teamsFluent in English, with full proficiency in business communication, both verbal and writtenPassionate about leveraging data science and machine learning to innovate and disrupt traditionally human-centric industriesSkilled in deriving, abstracting, and translating value from complex models into actionable insights within a commercial contextResourceful, creative, and adaptable, thriving in fast-paced, results-driven environmentsWhat We OfferLarge diversity of projects with real-world impacts on a truly global scaleEntrepreneurial environment within a flat hierarchy, where great ideas come to life quicklyOur Geneva office is located very centrally, 5 minutes from the main train station and 1 minute from the lake.
