Employment Type: Full-time
You will join a team of physicists and engineers working on the development of novel detector concepts for the FCC-ee physics program. You will be the main developer of an electromagnetic calorimeter design based on an innovative technology developed by collaborating institutes.
Your responsibilities
* Interact with physicists at CERN and at collaborating institutes to understand the key figures of merit of a calorimeter design based on the proposed technology.
* Work with CERN engineers and with the FCC Machine-Detector Interface (MDI) group to understand integration constraints related to the experimental cavern and to the collider elements.
* Develop and optimise the detector geometry, producing sufficiently detailed CAD models, in collaboration with the physicist in charge of the detector performance simulations.
* Evaluate construction techniques for the calorimeter mechanical elements, ensuring that both physics performance and structural requirements are met.
* Develop a concept for the overall supporting structure of the calorimeter and its integration within the overall detector mechanics, and validate the concept through structural analysis.
* Oversee the realisation of a demonstrator to validate the design and the selected technical solutions.
Your profile
* Experience with CAD software for mechanical design.
Skills
* Creativity and problem solving skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
* Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
Eligibility criteria
* By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
* You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
* Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
* Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
