Overview Development Engineer (contract) role at Roche
In Roche’s System Development (SD) department, you will work in a global, cross-functional environment focused on workflow optimization and integrating hardware, software, consumables, and reagents to perform system verification of diagnostics instruments. You will contribute to projects on Nucleic Acid Purification, PCR and Sequencing while developing complex diagnostics systems. You will perform hands-on experiments and hardware and software testing, evaluate system performance, address errors, and contribute to reliability improvements.
Responsibilities Plan and execute the work packages within the area of responsibility, including reporting and escalating issues to management
Subject matter expert for an assigned area of responsibility. Provide guidance and support to team members
Generate required documentation/procedures/technical reports
Prepare and deliver presentations of project results to team and management
Experimental design and execution of the experiments in the biosafety levels S1 and S2 laboratory
Creation of Test Cases based on Product Requirements. Execution of Test Cases, analysis of the results, and creation of the respective regulatory documents. Issue tracking and verification of bug fixes/Anomalies
Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems. Document and maintain software functionality
Coordinate efforts with other functional areas to accomplish tasks: Hardware, Software, Consumables, and Assay Development
Qualifications Degree in a relevant life science discipline (e.g., biology, biotechnology, biomedical informatics, or engineering related to life sciences) or corresponding job experience
Interest in resolving technical problems and interdisciplinary teamwork
Experience and willingness to work in a highly regulated industry and labs with biosafety levels S1 and S2
Familiarity with or strong interest in software and engineering applications and tools
Enthusiastic team player with good communication and collaboration skills; solution-oriented, autonomous, and proactive
Proven experience in laboratory diagnostics and/or service and support, and experience supporting HW and SW is an asset
Working knowledge of English (written and spoken); German is a strong asset
