The Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Zurich invites applications for an Assistant Professorship in Digital One Health. The position focuses on transforming human-shaped ecosystems through systematic analysis of health data and developing new tools, aiming for a digitized perspective on the interface between animal health, human health, and the environment. This aligns with two of the three research priorities of the Vetsuisse Faculty: One Health and Digitalization.
The successful candidate will be an active member of the One Health Institute (OHI) at UZH, which comprises three professorships in epidemiology, evolution, and digitalization. The position is affiliated with the UZH Digital Society Initiative (DSI), facilitating applications and synergies across research groups at UZH and ETH. Responsibilities include contributing to extracurricular teaching, supervising master’s, PhD, and postgraduate students from the Vetsuisse Faculty, Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty of Science.
Applicants should be data scientists with a DVM, MD, or PhD, and possess excellent communication skills in English and preferably German. Candidates should have an outstanding academic record in interdisciplinary digital projects and big data analyses related to One Health, focusing on integrating animal and human health data, including environmental and GIS data. Evidence of teaching skills is required.
The role involves conducting research and securing funding on projects assessing health risk factors and environmental impacts, using data such as animal electronic health records, clinic data, sensors, movement, trade, human mobility, and environmental data. Familiarity with text extraction, SQL, large database programming, AI, machine learning, and large language models is expected. Experience with participatory data collection and citizen science approaches is a plus.
