* We are seeking an experienced Computing Engineer with a strong foundation in Linux to join our team and help operate, evolve, and support Linux-based services used by thousands of scientists across the organization and worldwide.

The Role:

We provide essential infrastructure for the scientific community, including public software mirrors, package build systems, and network-booting (PXE) infrastructure. Our service supports a hybrid environment based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), AlmaLinux, and Debian, and we contribute upstream to open-source communities.

Your key responsibilities will include:
">
* Helping to operate and maintain key Linux services at CERN.
* Contributing to package building infrastructure for RPM- and DEB-based systems.
* Supporting PXE boot services and associated configuration tools.
* Collaborating with upstream open-source communities and partner HEP institutes to improve Linux tooling and reliability.
* Developing automation and tooling to streamline operations.
* Providing support and guidance to our Linux user community.
* Working with modern DevOps tools, including GitLab CI and configuration management systems.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
">
* Essential experience using and managing Linux systems.
* Basic experience in service operations or system administration.
* A good understanding of Linux package management (RPM/DEB).
* Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD pipelines, Python development, and configuration management systems (such as Puppet or Ansible).
* Proficiency in spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

We offer a competitive salary ranging between 5196 and 5716 Swiss Francs (net of tax). You will also receive comprehensive health insurance coverage and membership of the CERN Pension Fund. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for installation grants, family allowances, child and infant allowances, and travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.
