Job Description
This is a 12 month contracting starting latest by June 2026 with strong chance of extension (with possibility to extend for up to five years) based in Basel, Switzerland (50% home office offered).
This DBA will work in a small and diverse DBA Team of 4 x DBAs responsible for administration of the Oracle database infrastructures, and Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL. The new hire will work on a mix of project and operational related work in an enterprise environment, with a main focus on Oracle but also supporting migration of some applications onto Postgres.
Responsibilities
* Provide standardised templates and configurations for MS SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL deployments.
* Support adoption of modern database technologies, including containerised database solutions.
* Backup / restore operations.
* Monitoring and alert management.
* Performance analysis and tuning.
* Automate routine database tasks (e.g., provisioning, monitoring, patching) using tools like Ansible and OpenShift.
Requirements
* Deep domain expertise in managing and administering enterprise database systems, including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL.
* Experience with containerised database technologies and platforms, such as RedHat OpenShift.
* Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, security, and backup/recovery strategies.
* Proficiency in Linux system administration, including scripting (Bash, Python) and automation in enterprise environments.
* Demonstrated experience with automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform to streamline database deployment and management.
* Experience with DevOps practices, emphasizing automation, reusability, and collaboration to enhance database operations and project delivery.
* Fluency with CI/CD tools and code management solutions (e.g., Git), particularly for managing database infrastructure and deployment tasks.
* Understanding of IT infrastructure technologies, including Data Centre technologies, networking, and virtualisation, to support database integration into hybrid cloud environments.
* Ability to explore domains beyond current areas of expertise and write clear system and user documentation in English.
Nice To Have
* Experience with scheduling tool e.g. ControlM.
* Familiarity with modern authorization concepts, such as OAuth and token-based authentication, for secure database access.
