Bus Drivers
Job Description:
Needed: Drivers for Regular Routes, Substituting, and Extra-Trips.
Extra Trips include extracurricular/athletic events and field/class trips.
Sign-On/Retention Incentive:
$1,000 Sign-On bonus for all *NEW Bus Route Drivers hired after March 2022.
25% paid after 90-day probation period.
50% paid after 1-year work anniversary.
*Driver must work 250+ hours within the first year to qualify.
*NEW Driver refers to someone who has not been previously employed as a driver with Herscher CUSD #2.
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must hold or be able to obtain a School Bus Commercial Drivers License, including fingerprinting, physical, and drug screening.
* Must participate in mandatory random drug testing.
* Attend required training courses for school bus drivers.
* Complete annual requirements to retain Bus Driver’s Permit.
* Willingness to improve skills through additional training and workshops.
* Good communication skills.
* Additional requirements as determined by the Board of Education.
JOB GOALS:
* Provide safe and efficient transportation to maximize students' educational and extracurricular experiences.
* Promote high safety standards.
* Collaborate with the Director of Transportation and administrators to improve student discipline on buses.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Transport students safely, punctually, and courteously.
2. Obey all traffic laws and safety regulations.
3. Monitor the FM radio and respond promptly to calls.
4. Establish and enforce discipline policies on the bus.
5. Report undisciplined students to the appropriate authority.
6. Keep the bus clean inside and out.
7. Follow the assigned schedule.
8. Complete pre-trip inspection reports thoroughly.
9. Report mechanical issues or lateness promptly.
10. Discharge students only at designated stops.
11. Exercise leadership during out-of-district trips.
12. Transport only authorized students.
13. Maintain current passenger lists and route maps on the bus.
14. Report accidents immediately and complete necessary reports.
15. Enforce district bus behavior regulations.
16. Communicate courteously with passengers, parents, and colleagues.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
