K2 Photonics is building the next generation femtosecond laser platform for precision sensing and timing applications. Our technology enables real-time, highly sensitive quantification of gases and material properties - bringing lab-grade spectroscopy to the real world.
Overview
We are seeking a Laser Engineer to join our team in developing and building ultrafast laser systems. This is a hands-on, lab-based role, in which you will perform precise free-space optical alignments, participate in laser assembly and production processes, and use simulations for laser design and optimisation. The ideal candidate combines practical experience with demanding optical alignment tasks and theoretical understanding of laser physics.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with the production team to transition laser prototypes from R&D into manufacturing.
* Design, assemble, and prototype ultrafast laser systems to meet project specifications.
* Perform precise placement and alignment of laser optics and components under clean room environment.
* Support system testing and quality control for scalable production.
* Produce and maintain clear technical documentation in accordance to ISO9001 standard.
* Initiate continuous improvement steps to optimize the quality and efficiency of the production process.
* Qualify new components and stay up to date with the latest technology standards.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated ability in fine alignment and control of laser optical components with more than 4 years of hands-on experience in lasers and optics.
* Proficiency with programming (Python) and familiarity with optical design and simulation.
* Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, with an innovative mindset for researching and developing new laser technologies and improving existing systems.
* Proactive, hands-on, and detail-oriented mindset.
* Ability to follow and create detailed technical documentation and standard operating procedures; meticulous in maintaining lab notes, test reports, and assembly instructions.
* Fluency in English (German is a plus).
* MSc or PhD in the related area is a plus.
