The Role of a Library Assistant
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Library Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about education and has a strong commitment to supporting students and staff in achieving their goals.
The successful candidate will have experience working in a school library or library-related environment, preferably with secondary and high-school-age students. They will be fluent in English and possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. A positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to learn are essential qualities for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain a welcoming atmosphere in the library, ensuring it remains an aesthetically pleasing environment conducive to productive use.
* Instruct students on the proper use of the library, promoting a culture of respect and responsibility.
* Operate and maintain various library center equipment, including audiovisual equipment and computers.
* Catalogue, process, and shelve materials, update catalogues, indexes, and lists.
* Create engaging library exhibits, including display boards, posters, and other relevant signage.
* Contribute to the selection and ordering of library books and materials, research publishers for best prices, prepare purchase requisitions, and track orders.
* Manage and coordinate subscriptions, ensuring timely delivery of resources.
* Coordinate library schedules with staff members, fostering effective collaboration and communication.
* Participate actively in staff and department meetings, sharing expertise and contributing to decision-making processes.
The ideal candidate will be open-minded, flexible, enjoy working independently but seek advice when needed, and demonstrate a team-oriented approach. They will also be empathetic towards teachers and enjoy working with students and parents, possessing a positive sense of humor.
