The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for performing commissioning and start‑up for the use of Ovivo proprietary Ultrapure Water (UPW) plants equipment. He/she will be responsible for starting‑up equipment in the plant to reach the final UPW quality specification. The company is based in Witterswil, Solothurn (Basel Area), Switzerland. The role is based directly on customer site and requires (100%) international travelling.
How You’ll Make An Impact
Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Construction Managers to track progress against the approved project schedule and commissioning milestones.
Introduce water into the ultrapure water (UPW) treatment system and verify mechanical installation integrity through pressure testing.
Load and commission process media and equipment, including but not limited to ion exchange resins, reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration membranes, and UV systems.
Perform system flushing and conditioning activities to achieve final UPW quality specifications.
Manage and monitor wastewater generated during commissioning, coordinating with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operation.
Participate in coordination, progress, and technical meetings with customer representatives as required.
Execute Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) in accordance with project and quality requirements.
Provide comprehensive plant training to customers, covering process fundamentals, operational procedures, and best practices.
Complete final plant certification and support formal handover to the end customer.
Prepare and maintain detailed commissioning documentation, including test results, deviations, root causes, and corrective actions.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues encountered during system start‑up and commissioning.
Ensure strict adherence to site Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices at all times.
Qualifications
Technical graduate education (bachelor’s degree or master’s degree) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
Strong understanding of continuous process systems, ideally within gas, water, pharmaceutical, or other regulated industrial environments.
Proven hands‑on experience in commissioning, start‑up, operation, maintenance, or technical service roles.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex systems, supported by strong analytical thinking and structured problem‑solving skills.
Ability to effectively prioritise a high‑volume workload while remaining flexible and responsive to rapidly changing site conditions.
Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and international teams.
Proactive and self‑driven approach, with the confidence and sound judgement to make independent technical decisions when required.
Clear and professional communication skills; able to represent the company on‑site and serve as a trusted interface with customers.
Fluent in English (working language); proficiency in German and/or French is a strong advantage.
Swiss or EU citizenship, or possession of a valid Swiss work permit.
