SW/FW Senior R&D Engineer for SST (80-100%)
The position reports to the Program Manager, Solid State Transformer.
Role and Responsibilities
* Defining and maintaining advanced embedded software architecture for power electronics platforms, ensuring modularity, scalability, and long‑term maintainability across multiple product generations. This includes creating high‑level design documents, interface specifications, and architectural diagrams to support robust development practices.
* Collaborating and integrating closely with cross‑functional R&D teams, including hardware, system design, control software, mechanical, and validation engineers, to translate functional requirements into reliable software solutions. This involves developing reusable frameworks, libraries, and drivers for microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGAs, while aligning with qualification and productization goals.
* Overseeing and reviewing technical activities such as architecture evaluations, design‑pattern assessments, and coding‑practice audits to guarantee compliance with industry standards and internal quality benchmarks. Additionally ensuring documentation excellence and clarity for future maintenance and scalability.
* Facilitating and supporting end‑to‑end system testing, debugging, validation, and performance optimization of firmware in both laboratory and field environments. Contributing to the advancement of key power electronics technologies, IP development, and standards activities, reinforcing the team’s innovation leadership in data‑center R&D.
Qualifications
* University Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering and/or Control and Embedded Systems, with a focus on power electronics converter products and applications.
* More than 5 years of solid experience in power electronics real‑time control, embedded software development (C/C++), and firmware development for FPGA (VHDL), including deep understanding of complex software and firmware architectures, development tools, and processes.
* Experience in modeling and simulation of software and firmware using state‑of‑the‑art simulation and engineering design tools.
* Keen interest and capability in practical experimentation, testing, and validation in medium‑voltage environments, as well as introducing new products and functionalities to the market. Knowledge in control solutions validation, productization, and certification of power electronic converters is highly desirable.
* Motivated, self‑organised, and interested in applied research and development, thriving in a highly qualified, global R&D team composed of experts from multiple domains.
* Fluent in written and spoken English; proficiency in German is considered beneficial.
* Available for occasional travel as required by project and collaboration needs.
