Job Description
Position: Part-Time ESL Teacher (0.5 FTE)
Locations: Various buildings across the district Start Date: 2025–2026 School Year
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Pinckney Community Schools is seeking a dynamic, qualified ESL teacher to support English Learners (ELs) in developing English language proficiency while accessing rigorous content instruction. This 0.5 FTE position provides both direct and indirect services based on students’ linguistic and academic needs. The ESL teacher will collaborate with general education staff to design and adapt instruction, ensuring accessibility and language development in inclusive environments across multiple school sites.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
* Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
* Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an English as a Second Language (NS) or Bilingual Education (YT) endorsement
Preferred:
* Endorsement in English or ELA
* Training in SIOP or other sheltered instruction models
* Experience working with multilingual learners and families from diverse backgrounds
* Familiarity with WIDA standards and assessments
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:
* Working knowledge of multi-tiered systems of supports
* Background in creating and evaluating successful grant programs
* Previous experience planning and leading professional learning for educators
* Deliver high-quality ESL instruction tailored to individual language development needs
* Provide targeted support for newcomers and long-term ELs facing academic plateaus
* Design lessons that build grade-level academic vocabulary and content knowledge
* Collaborate with classroom teachers to scaffold instruction and assessments for ELs
* Share cultural and linguistic insights to inform classroom practices
* Support the identification, placement, and monitoring of ELs using data from AimsWeb, NWEA, WIDA ACCESS, and screeners
* Maintain accurate documentation of EL progress and required compliance paperwork
* Communicate regularly with families, offering language support as needed
* Participate in IEPs, METs, and team meetings where ELs are involved
* Facilitate professional learning related to English language development and best practices in inclusive instruction
* Advocate for equitable learning experiences for all multilingual learners
* Travel between buildings as needed based on student distribution and program design
* Able to work independently, problem-solve, and find solutions to challenging situations
* Knowledge of MAP Growth and AimsWeb+ assessments and data
