Position Reported To
R&D Team Lead
Role and Responsibilities
We offer an internship in scientific software engineering for multi-physics simulations in electrical engineering. You will contribute to a large C/C++ based simulation tool, focusing on software architecture, algorithm implementation, and performance optimization. Your work will involve understanding the implementation of complex numerical methods in a maintainable, extendable software, ensuring code robustness and efficiency, and collaborating on real‑world applications. This internship offers practical experience in high-performance computing, multi-physics applications, and professional software design practices. During the internship, you will be integrated into the Theoretical and Computational Methods Team and will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced researchers in an international group of scientists and engineers, where you will be able to thrive.
Responsibilities
Understanding, analyzing, and contributing to the architectural design and code implementation of a scientific computing simulation tool; participating in designing interfaces and components with the research team.
Analyzing computational results and providing insights for optimizing code structure, algorithms and software performance.
Presenting progress and results to the team during regular meetings.
Documenting findings, methodologies, and results.
Qualifications
Enrolled student in computer science, computational sciences, numerical mathematics, or a related subject (advanced B.Sc. or M.Sc. level).
Proficient programming skills in C++ (modern C++, template, memory management, performance optimization) and solid C fundamentals.
Software architecture and design skills: object‑oriented design principles, design patterns, code organization and modularity, understanding of interfaces, version control (git).
Some knowledge of scientific computing, numerical methods and/or computational fluid dynamics is a plus.
Curiosity, systematic, and problem‑solving skills and ability to organize and prioritize tasks as well as part of an international team.
Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
Availability for six months (flexible start date in summer/early fall 2026).
Benefits
We empower you to take initiative, challenge ideas, and lead with confidence. You’ll grow through meaningful work, continuous learning, and support that’s tailored to your goals. Every idea you share and every action you take contributes to something bigger.
