Job Description
About Us
CERN's Engineering Department is at the forefront of technological innovation, enabling physicists to push the boundaries of research. In the Electrical Engineering group of the EN department, our Design and Documentation Office (DDO) section is responsible for delivering electrical designs and managing databases for the continuously evolving transmission and distribution networks.
We are seeking an experienced electrical design engineer with expertise in AC and DC distribution systems, lighting studies, earthing studies, and cabling schedules. If you have a strong background in electrical design and a passion for working on complex projects, we encourage you to apply.
Main Functions
* As a lead design engineer, you will be responsible for designing large-scale electrical projects, including low- and high-voltage distribution networks, lighting systems for buildings and external areas, DC and UPS distribution systems, and earthing networks.
* You will create and update design drawings using BricsCAD/AutoCAD and develop cabling schedules and installation drawings.
* You will update equipment information into CERN databases and ensure that designs comply with industry standards, safety rules, quality requirements, and general CERN requirements.
* You will provide ongoing support to the team by maintaining and improving quality standards.
Qualifications
A Master's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
Experience:
* You should have experience leading the design for large electrical projects.
* You should have expertise in electrical design of HV and LV distribution systems.
* You should be proficient in short circuit calculations, load flow analysis, design of distribution systems, and general electrical circuit design.
* You should have knowledge of electrical distribution equipment, such as switchgear, switchboards, protection relays, transformers, UPS systems, generators, battery chargers, and inverters.
* You should have experience supervising draughtsman and junior engineers.
* You should be able to produce design documents using CAD software (BricsCAD/AutoCAD).
* EPLAN electric P8 would be an asset.
Technical Competencies
* You should be skilled in designing and modeling both high-voltage and low-voltage electrical circuits and networks using BricsCAD, Dialux, and Eleccalc (or similar software packages).
Behavioural Competencies
* Managing Self: You should be able to work well autonomously, take initiative beyond regular tasks, and make things happen.
* Solving Problems: You should be able to assimilate large quantities of information, identify key issues, and formulate conclusions clearly and concisely.
* Achieving Results: You should deliver high-quality work on time and fulfill expectations.
* Working in Teams: You should be able to build and maintain constructive and effective work relationships.
* Communicating Effectively: You should be able to listen actively to others and let others speak.
Language Skills
Spoken and written English or French: ability to understand and speak the other language in professional contexts. Ability to draw-up technical specifications and/or scientific reports and to make oral presentations in at least one of the two languages.
