One Ph.D. position is available in the research group of Prof. Luciani at the University of Bern on the topic “In vitro models of fibrosis in endometriosis as a screening tool for novel and repurposed drug candidates”. The planned starting date is August 1, 2025.
Background
Endometriosis is a chronic condition affecting 5–10% of women of reproductive age and involved in 5–50% of female factor infertility cases. Current treatments are limited to hormone therapy and surgery, mainly for pain relief. Recently, the fibrotic aspect of the disease has emerged as a potential therapeutic target.
Tasks
Our group develops 3D culture models of fibrosis in endometriosis to evaluate antifibrotic drugs for potential repurposing. The doctoral student will work with biomaterials, additive manufacturing, cell culture, extracellular vesicles, and omics technologies, learning to develop advanced therapeutics in a multidisciplinary environment in collaboration with preclinical and clinical labs.
Requirements
The ideal candidate
* holds a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Pharmacy
* has experience with cell culture techniques
* can collaborate across disciplines
* is proactive, motivated, and interested in new technologies
* is fluent in English
* is willing to teach and mentor undergraduate students
