The Opportunity
A leading European energy company is seeking an experienced Senior Proprietary Trader to strengthen its proprietary trading activities within European power and gas markets.
This role offers the opportunity to take meaningful risk ownership within a disciplined, utility-style proprietary framework, combining fundamental market insight, structured risk management, and selective use of quantitative analytics. The position sits in a mature trading environment with strong infrastructure, governance, and capital support.
Key Responsibilities
* Full P&L ownership of proprietary trading strategies in European power and gas
* Develop and execute discretionary and hybrid trading strategies across short- to medium-term horizons
* Integrate fundamental analysis, market structure, macro and geopolitical drivers into positioning
* Work closely with quantitative and analytics resources to enhance decision-making, scenario analysis, and risk control
* Contribute to the evolution of proprietary trading frameworks, tools, and governance
* Engage with internal stakeholders across risk, analytics, and asset-backed trading where relevant
Required Experience
* 10+ years of front-office experience in European power and/or gas trading
* Proven track record of proprietary P&L generation within a risk-controlled environment
* Strong understanding of utility-style risk frameworks, position limits, and governance
* Experience building or scaling trading books, desks, or strategies
* Ability to clearly articulate risk, conviction, and downside scenarios
Preferred Profile
* Background at utilities, trading houses, or established proprietary desks
* Comfortable working alongside quantitative or systematic analytics, without relying on black-box models
* Leadership mindset with the ability to mentor, collaborate, and influence
* Long-term orientation toward sustainable value creation rather than short-term volatility
