Job OverviewManager External Manufacturing Category supports the end‑to‑end procurement strategy for the category, delivering cost efficiency, quality, innovation, and sustainability outcomes that enable J&J’s business growth. Serves as the category subject‑matter expert and partners with Supply Chain, Quality, R&D, Legal, Finance, and other stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesProcurement Strategy & Execution SupportDeploy the Innovative Medicine Supply Chain Procurement Strategy, contribute to sourcing strategies, and shape the supply base.Leverage market intelligence & category expertise to assess industry trends, identify value‑creation opportunities, and proactively address supply and cost risks.Lead medium‑complexity procurement projects aligned with supply chain strategy.Supplier Management & ContractingBuild and maintain strong relationships with in‑scope suppliers, manage supplier selection, sourcing processes, due diligence, and negotiate commercial agreements and contracts.Partner with suppliers and internally to identify cost reductions, quality improvements, and process efficiencies.Manage portfolio‑level contract lifecycle activities with Legal.Stakeholder Engagement & Cross‑Functional CollaborationParticipate in cross‑functional category and project forums; partner with Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory, and R&D to enable product launches and operational readiness.Incorporate stakeholder requirements into actionable sourcing plans and support sustainable procurement and supplier diversity initiatives.Financial Management & Commercial ImpactDeliver cost‑effective sourcing solutions across existing and new products; drive cost avoidance and cash‑flow improvements.Live into financial cycles and deliver performance indicators (CIP, Cash, Cost Avoidance, Inflation, etc.).Risk, Resiliency & ComplianceEscalate commercial, supply, quality, and regulatory risks; drive mitigation actions and maintain continuity plans.Support compliance with regulatory and quality requirements.Data, Tools & Continuous ImprovementLeverage procurement systems, analytics, and digital tools for insight and decision making; use data to drive continuous improvement.InnovationIdentify supplier innovation projects; lead projects through commercialization with representation from Quality, R&D, and Procurement.QualificationsEducation• Bachelor’s degree (preferred fields: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Supply Chain Management or equivalent).• MBA or Master’s degree preferred.Experience & Skills• Minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience, preferably inside and outside Procurement.• Analytical skills for data analysis supporting sourcing strategy.• Negotiation and relationship‑management experience.• Project‑management and leadership experience in cross‑functional projects.• Ability to make tough decisions in a timely manner.• Planning, organizational, presentation, and communication skills.• Familiarity with digital and AI tools.Leadership Behaviors & Competencies• Results‑oriented, accountable, and action‑driven.• Collaborative relationship‑builder.• Agile and adaptable in a fast‑moving environment.• High ethical standards and governance alignment.• Customer‑focused with a mindset for innovation.Other Requirements• Up to 20% domestic and international travel may be required.Preferred SkillsBusiness Data AnalysisBusiness SavvyCategory Management StrategyCoachingCompetitive Landscape AnalysisContract ManagementCost‑Benefit Analysis (CBA)Critical ThinkingData AnalysisMarket SavvyNegotiationNew Program DevelopmentPerformance MeasurementProcess ImprovementsProcurement PoliciesRelationship BuildingRisk ManagementSpend AnalysisStrategic ThinkingSupplier CollaborationSustainable ProcurementTechnical CredibilityVendor Selection
