PhD Position in Medical Entomology (100%)
PhD Position in Medical Entomology at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) – a world‑leading institute in global health, affiliated with the University of Basel.
Our Vector Biology Group focuses on the biology, surveillance and control of insect vectors of human pathogens. The research is centred on the invasive Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, within a cluster‑randomised controlled trial in Basel, Switzerland.
Responsibilities
* Plan and conduct field experiments on mosquito behaviour and ecology.
* Collect, manage and analyse entomological and environmental data.
* Contribute to the development and evaluation of community‑based vector control strategies.
* Support the implementation of a cluster‑randomised controlled trial.
* Publish results in peer‑reviewed journals and present findings at scientific conferences.
Qualifications
* Master’s degree in biology, ecology, epidemiology, entomology or a related field.
* Strong interest in vector biology, applied entomology and public health.
* Experience with fieldwork and experimental design.
* Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
* Quantitative skills and experience with statistical analysis (e.g. R) are an advantage.
* Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of German is an asset.
