We are committed to creating an environment where every team member feels included, respected, empowered and recognised.
What You Can Expect
We are looking for a passionate Electrical R&D Engineer to join our Global Research & Development team in Geneva. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and commercialization of the electrical elements of next‑generation medical devices.
You will collaborate cross-functionally, support both new product development and sustaining engineering activities, and help integrate new technologies that advance Zimmer Biomet’s mission of restoring mobility and improving the quality of life for patients.
This position offers the opportunity to work on meaningful projects with global impact, while developing your engineering expertise in a highly regulated, innovation-focused environment
How You'll Create Impact
* Support the identification of user needs and translate them into actionable design inputs.
* Contribute to electrical hardware design, from concept through verification, validation, and design transfer into manufacturing.
* Create hardware requirement specifications and develop design details supporting functionality, manufacturability, testability, and inspection.
* Perform verification and validation testing—including bench testing, tolerance analyses, and simulated use testing to reduce risk and ensure regulatory compliance.
* Support prototype builds, preliminary evaluations, risk management activities, and documentation creation in line with design control processes.
* Assist in design changes for released products and contribute to product investigations in partnership with Quality and Post‑Market Surveillance teams.
* Participate in patent‑related activities by contributing technical insights and documentation.
* Stay informed about relevant medical electrical standards and emerging technologies, proposing new solutions that support innovation.
* Collaborate with Quality, Sourcing, and Manufacturing teams during design transfer activities.
* Manage assigned tasks, report progress, and support project planning, scheduling, and risk assessment.
What Makes You Stand Out
Technical Skills
* Understanding of embedded microprocessor design, schematic capture, PCB layout, and simulation tools.
* Familiarity with hardware communication interfaces (SPI, UART, A/D, D/A, I²C, CAN).
* Exposure to EMC design principles and product‑level EMC testing is desirable.
* Experience or interest in FPGA/CPLD design (VHDL/Verilog), wireless/Bluetooth design, motor control (BLDC), and Li‑ion battery management is a plus.
* Working knowledge of statistics and verification tools (sample size determination, DOE, hypothesis testing); experience with Minitab is beneficial.
Soft Skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective cross‑functional collaboration.
* Ability to work autonomously on defined work packages and proactively communicate progress.
* Curiosity for new technologies and willingness to build deeper expertise in regulatory and technical standards.
Your Background
Education
* Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited (or equivalent) institution.
Experience
* 2–5 years of engineering experience (including relevant internships/co‑ops).
Experience in regulated industries—preferably medical devices is an advantage
