Overview
Power Electronics Engineer at ABB. This role contributes to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. You will identify and implement innovative solutions and work independently or as part of an R&D team. The work model for the role is: On Site. This role contributes to the Power Protection/EL/SP/R&D in Switzerland.
Responsibilities
* Work as an independent and reliable contributor in R&D projects with limited supervision.
* Understand and apply applicable processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints.
* Drive the achievement of targets (quality, time, scope, cost); raise and address risks.
* Design and develop power converters.
* Specify components and define technical requirements with suppliers.
* Support the overall design cycle of new products from simulation to validation and documentation, through design and test.
* Conduct and coordinate complex analyses; develop recommendations based on technology/engineering practices and business considerations.
* Support operations and after-sales during troubleshooting phases.
* Plan and coordinate a range of complex technology/engineering activities.
You will join an agile team that consists of approximately 8-12 employees that work cross-functionally to design and develop new products.
Qualifications For The Role
* Master in Electrical/Electronics Engineering with thesis in Power Electronics or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics and equivalent work experience.
* Proved experience in power semiconductor characteristics, inductors and passive components.
* Experience with power electronic design topologies, knowledge of UPS technology and familiarity with power protection.
* Mastery of simulation tools - MATLAB/Simulink, LTSpice - and programming language - C -.
* Good communication skills in English, both oral and written. Other languages are an asset.
* Significant experience working within a complex organization.
* Willingness to travel occasionally (5%).
* Valid work permit for United States or Switzerland.
