The European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) is the organisation representing people with arthritis/rheumatism, health professionals, and scientific societies of rheumatology across Europe. EULAR is a non-profit scientific and educational association recognized by Swiss law.
EULAR aims to reduce the impact of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) on individuals and society, and to improve the social standing and quality of life for people with RMDs in Europe.
To strengthen our strategic leadership in science and research, EULAR seeks a dynamic and experienced individual to join as Chief Scientific Officer. This role reports directly to the Executive Director.
Your responsibilities:
* Oversee all scientific departments and activities, including leading and coordinating EULAR’s scientific, research, and advocacy efforts in collaboration with relevant committees (EULAR Research, Advocacy, Quality of Care).
* Ensure project management standards are maintained across all science-related projects.
* Manage EULAR’s scientific journals in partnership with editors and publishers.
* Represent EULAR at the annual EULAR Congress.
* Prepare reports on scientific activities and outputs for stakeholders.
* Work with leadership to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
* Manage multiple small, high-performing teams.
Your profile:
* Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in a relevant scientific field; medical background is advantageous.
* Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, preferably in non-profit or scientific organizations.
* Experience in health, research, or science; familiarity with EU-funded projects is a plus.
* Understanding of healthcare and research in an international context; interest in rheumatology is beneficial.
* Experience with scientific publishing or journal management is an asset.
* Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Proven leadership skills, preferably in an international setting.
* Strong attention to detail, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Excellent English communication skills; German is a plus.
* High integrity, responsibility, and discretion.
* Willingness to travel internationally.
* Interest in working in a multicultural, diverse environment.
